Lou Dobbs attempts to talk about race and gets about one syllable away from ending his career: For those of you who may be confused, the phrase he was going for was “cotton-pickin’.” Which connotatively is probably not the best expression to use when discussing African-Americans and our country’s history of race relations.

Hillary’s bad luck with grown-up kids continues
March 31st, 2008 · No Comments
Earlier this month, it was revealed that the footage the Clinton campaign used to make its 3 a.m./Red Phone ad was eight years old, and one of the sleeping children in the ad turned out to be a now grown-up Obama precinct captain in Washington state named Casey Knowles. The video Knowles made for YouTube criticizing [...]

Hillary Clinton’s economy racks up massive debt
March 30th, 2008 · No Comments
Or maybe I’m the only one who finds enormous irony in the fact that Hillary Clinton is claiming to be the most qualified candidate to manage the economy and lecturing everyone on fiscal responsibility, yet can’t even balance her own campaign’s budget: A pair of Ohio companies owed more than $25,000 by Clinton for staging events for her [...]

The value of The View
March 30th, 2008 · 1 Comment
I never really understood the value of a show where four people– moderated by Barbara Walters– who have little expertise and generally no idea of what they’re talking about, get together to do nothing but talk for an hour. Think about it. Would you have Rachel Ray do an hour-long talk show about sports? Would you have Tucker Carlson do a show [...]

Clinton resume padding watch: The media goes on high alert
March 27th, 2008 · 2 Comments
The media smells blood in the water. Here’s Dan Abrams pointing out two more misstatements by Hillary Clinton surrounding her now infamous Tuzla Tale: Nitpicking? Maybe. But if you’re going to say you were the first person to do something, you should probably make sure nobody did it before you. The reason I think Tuzla [...]

Hillary wasn’t lying: New Tuzla footage discovered
March 27th, 2008 · No Comments
Responding to yesterday’s post on Hillary Clinton’s Tuzla problem, commenter Long Tall Texan provides some new video evidence that turns the entire story on its head: All of you people have it wrong! Guess you haven’t seen the NEW BOSNIA FOOTAGE which proves that there WAS SNIPER FIRE (and worse) when Hillary landed that day. [...]

Is Tuzla a bigger problem for Clinton than Wright is for Obama?
March 26th, 2008 · 1 Comment
Personal story #2 today. I talked to my mom this evening, who still lives in Pennsylvania, and she told me that the local news stations have been all over Hillary Clinton this week for what is now being widely regarded– even in the most cautious journalistic circles– as a flat-out lie: her tale of running from sniper fire during [...]

Debating the Bush/McCain Iraq War mosaic
March 26th, 2008 · No Comments
A friend of mine emailed me the other day over this mosaic posted at HuffPo: It’s a picture composed with the faces of the 4,000 U.S. soldiers who died in Iraq (minus a few unavailable photos). My friend wrote me to say that it was an unfair cheap shot, and that it’s unproductive for war opponents to [...]

Pat Buchanan: Rev. Wright should get down on his knees and thank God for slavery
March 24th, 2008 · 5 Comments
If Pat Buchanan were to publicly use a racial slur, he would no doubt be fired from his pundit-on-call position at the various networks and labeled rightly as a nutjob. The hateful diatribe Buchanan posted today on his website, titled “A Brief For Whitey”, will allow him to keep his job and whatever respectable reputation he enjoys, but it [...]

The Bible according to James Carville
March 23rd, 2008 · 1 Comment
James Carville went just a bit overboard this weekend describing former Clinton administration cabinet member Bill Richardson’s endorsement of Barack Obama: Mr. Richardson’s endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic. For those of you keeping score [...]

Hillary Clinton caught lying about her “experience” in Bosnia
March 21st, 2008 · 1 Comment
Earlier today, The Washington Post blew apart some dubious claims Hillary Clinton made last week about the dangers involved in her 1996 trip to Bosnia. In a March 17th speech at George Washington University, Clinton told supporters: I certainly do remember that trip to Bosnia, and as [former Army secretary] Togo [West] said, there was a saying around the White House [...]

More firsthand Pennsylvania primary perspective
March 20th, 2008 · No Comments
Commenter Andrew, a native Pennsylvanian, weighs in with some great insight on the Keystone State’s upcoming Democratic primary: Hello Sir or Madame, [Griffin's note: It's "sir"-- I'm a guy] Great work on your blog. I’m from Pennsylvania. I live in Philadelphia, but I just toured northeastern Pennsylvania during my spring break (for a little vacation fun) and was [...]

Cliffs Notes version of Hillary Clinton’s White House schedules
March 20th, 2008 · 1 Comment
The media has started poring over Hillary’s First Lady schedules and they tell us pretty much what we already knew. She started out deep in health care policy– by far the most extensive, and perhaps only, real executive experience of her life up until her current presidential campaign– but after the 1993 initiative failed in such spectacular fashion, she was [...]

Mike Huckabee defends Barack Obama on Rev. Wright controversy
March 19th, 2008 · 1 Comment
Sorry for the one-topic blogging this week, but this ongoing discussion of race in America is fascinating to me. Here’s a video of former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee defending Obama’s handling of the Wright controversy and encouraging Americans to have a bit of sympathy for Wright himself. Insightful stuff from a former pastor. The key quote: [...]

Morning after the race speech: Obama’s broken pact with white voters
March 19th, 2008 · 6 Comments
With a day’s worth of distance and perspective now, I stand behind the assertion I made yesterday that for everyone under the age of 40, ”A More Perfect Union” was the great American speech on race of our lifetime. 100 years from now, it will be the jumping off point for historians looking to assess the progress of race relations in [...]
