There was no actual pact between Obama and white voters, only the unspoken one in the minds of some white voters: We won't hold your race against you if you don't hold ours against us. Obama "broke" that pact when it was revealed that he (*gasp!*) goes to a black church where (*gasp!*) the black minister still hasn't gotten over racism ("Seriously, like, what's that guy's problem?") and isn't as enlightened on the subject as Obama is. In other words, Obama "betrayed" a certain segment of white voters who just last week found out that despite what they may have believed, he really is black and has real ties to the black community, for better or worse. You seem to be saying that by staying with that church he is betraying whites, but he discussed that in his speech. To paraphrase: "I can no more disown Rev. Wright than I can disown my white grandmother." Besides, why should he leave the church that is so deeply integrated with his family and his community?
