Just a thought. What if the bailout deal takes another week to finalize? Or another two weeks? Does John McCain continue to sit in Washington twiddling his thumbs and posing for pictures with all his campaign ads pulled off the air? Does he allow Barack Obama and Joe Biden to use the debate venues, and the roadblocked network and cable TV coverage that comes along with them, to do uncontested town hall meetings/Democratic informercials? Does he give up a week or two of essential battleground campaigning a mere month before the election?
In short, we all know that the faux sacrifice of McCain suspending his campaign is a political gimmick, but what’s he going to do if a drawn-out bailout battle turns his gimmick into a real sacrifice? I’m not saying congressional Democrats should drag their feet on this bill. Maybe just keep the running shoes in the closet.
