SNL’s solution to the financial crisis: FIX IT!

By Griffin · October 11th, 2008 · 5 Comments

Hilarious bit by Keenan Thompson Thursday night.  Skip to the 4:31 mark in the video.

The “Really?!/Oh, my God, are you serious?!” bit at the 2:12 mark is pretty funny, too. Speaking of which, it can’t be overstated how much NBC sucks for not letting people chop up their clips and post them on YouTube. Nobody wants to skip through these ten minute videos to get to the good stuff. Except the readers of TWP, of course, which is why I posted this ten minute clip for you to skip through.

The debate skit was good, too, but it ran long. Fred Armisen’s Obama struck the first funny note ever for me when he confessed to being best friends with Bill Ayers, then said, “Now, I’m telling you this because I’m so far ahead in the polls right now, it’s not gonna matter.” Though this is getting dangerously close to my Scary Obama idea. Any more of this, and I’ll need to see my name in the credits.

    Why is SNL never funny? Maybe they should go back and study Monty Python… not sure. It just seems like they have too much time to fill, but I think they have enough cash to hire the writers necessary to do shorter funnier skits. Not sure, really…

    Funniest thing in that first SNL vid was the “people who control Bollywood.” It’s probably an old joke, but not for me.

    @Daniel,

    Are you serious? The “Oh, Really!?! OMG Are you serious?!?” segment is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in weeks. Here I am months in the future, seeing it for the first time, but from this vantage point, it’s hysterical.

    @Gary, yeah, I’m serious, but I’ll watch it again… comedy is a hard thing to agree on, though.

    [...] One could pick nits with the Republic editorial. My wife picked a pretty savvy one Sunday morning when she brought the paper to me with this quote: “The Republic Editors are just like Kenan Thompson’s Saturday night live bit on the economy, Fix it! Fix it. Fix it.”   [...]
